Bmi regional has welcomed the government’s decision to go ahead with the Hinkley Point C power station project.

Commenting on the decision, Jochen Schnadt, chief commercial officer at airline bmi regional, which operates a Bristol Airport hub, said: “As an airline focused on business travel and convenient and seamless connectivity, we are delighted that the Hinkley Point C project now has the government green light.  The project is set to bring contracts worth £465 million to the region, creating 650 jobs according to operator EDF Energy.  This development is further testament to the growing importance of Bristol and the wider South-West as a key European business region.

“At bmi regional we serve eight key business destinations from Bristol with up to three times daily flights. We have double daily flights to Paris CDG (the home of EDF Energy), triple daily flights to Frankfurt and double daily flights to Munich, plus further routes from Bristol to Europe.  bmi regional is the No.1 carrier in Bristol and the South-West, connecting the region to the world through those hubs. Given the international nature of this project with French EDF Energy being the future operator of Hinkley Point C and the significant Chinese investment in this project, the need for frequent and convenient transport links is clear. This once in a lifetime opportunity promises a £4billion economic shot in the arm for Somerset and the region and bmi regional is ideally placed to provide sustainable connectivity throughout the construction and operation of the power station.”
