Boeing has set a new company record for the most commercial airplanes delivered in a single year.
The US planemaker delivered 723 aircraft in 2014, breaking the previous record set in 2013. The company also took new orders for 1,432 aircraft last year, worth a total of US$232.7 billion at list prices. This also marks a new record, topping the previous best set in 2007.
“I’m extremely proud of the entire Boeing team, and all of the hard work that went into delivering and selling a record number of commercial airplanes this past year,” said Boeing’s commercial president & CEO, Ray Conner.
The record number deliveries were driven by two aircraft types – the single-aisle B737 and twin-aisle B787 Dreamliner. A total of 485 B737s were delivered, up from 440 in 2013, while B787 deliveries increased from 65 to 114, including the first ever B787-9s. Boeing also delivered 99 B777s, slightly more than the 98 delivered last year.
Deliveries of the B747-8 Intercontinental declined however, from 24 to 19, while deliveries of the B767 fell from 21 to six, as Boeing winds down this product line.
Of the 1,432 orders booked by Boeing in 2014, the B737 and B737 MAX led the way with 1,104, followed by the B777 and B777-X with 283 orders.
“In the face of fierce competition, we had a strong year,” said Conner. “In 2015 we’ll remain focused on meeting our customer commitments, and prepare for key milestones on our development programs, including the start of assembly of the first 737 MAX and firm configuration for the 777X.”
Boeing’s unfilled commercial order book stood at 5,789 aircraft at the end of the year – another all-time high.
