Boeing achieved a strong rise in aircraft deliveries in the first quarter of the year.
The US planemaker recorded 161 commercial aircraft deliveries in the first three months of 2014, 17.5% more than the same period last year, when it delivered 137 jets.
This growth was driven by demand for two models – the single-aisle B737 and new B787 Dreamliner. B737 deliveries increased 12.7% year-on-year to 102 aircraft, while Boeing delivered 18 B787s in Q1 2014, compared to just one in Q1 2013. However this was largely due to the fact that the Dreamliner was grounded for most of last year’s first quarter.
Deliveries of the popular twin-aisle B777 remained static at 24 aircraft, while B747-8 deliveries fell from six to four aircraft. No B767s were delivered in Q1 2014.
The Q1 2014 performance follows a record year for Boeing deliveries in 2013. The planemaker delivered 648 aircraft last year, up from 601 in 2012. Production rates of the B737 and B787 are now at record levels, to cater for rising demand from airlines.
