Boeing speeds up deliveries in 2013

Boeing’s commercial aircraft deliveries accelerated in 2013, despite the four-month grounding of the B787 Dreamliner.
The US planemaker delivered a total of 648 commercial jets last year, 8% more than the 601 it delivered in 2012. And this growth was driven by the success of the Dreamliner. Even though deliveries of the new wide-body aircraft were suspended from January to April 2013, during the B787’s grounding, Boeing still managed to deliver 65 B787s last year – 41% more than in 2012.
This was largely due to Boeing accelerating the B787’s production rate, and it did likewise with the B777 and B737 models. Deliveries of the wide-body B777 increased 18% to 98 aircraft, while Boeing’s popular narrow-body aircraft, the B737, experienced a 6% increase to 440 deliveries.
And while Airbus has not yet released its full-year delivery figures, Boeing is expected to retain its position as the world’s top planemaker in 2013.
The new version of the B747 however, remained relatively unpopular with airlines. Boeing delivered just 24 B747-8s in 2013, 23% fewer than in 2012. B767 deliveries fell 19% to 21 aircraft.
