Boeing has shown its support to its home team, the Seattle Seahawks, ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl, by decorating one of its B787-8 Intercontinental aircraft in the team’s colours.

Seattle’s NFC champions take on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII this weekend, and as one of the city’s main employers, Boeing has paid tribute to its home team.

“The Seahawks have been an inspiration to our entire community throughout this incredible season,” said Boeing’s commercial president & CEO, Ray Conner. “We’re honoured that we could join together two northwest icons, the Seahawks and the 747, for this special salute from the entire Boeing team.”

The team livery features the Seahawks logo and a ’12’ on the tail, as a salute to the team’s fans, who are collectively nicknamed the “12th man”. The aircraft will make its first flight on Thursday 30 January 2014.

“The 747 team is proud that one of our airplanes could be used as a tribute to the Seahawks’ success this season and a rallying cry for the team as they prepare for the Super Bowl,” said Eric Lindblad, vice president & general manager of the 747 programme. “The partnerships we have with the Seahawks and others are making a positive difference in the communities where Boeing employees live and work. We join with all Seahawks fans in wishing the team success on Sunday.”

If Seattle wins at New Jersey’s Metlife Stadium on Sunday it will mark the team’s first ever Super Bowl victory.
