Boeing to develop 737 MAX business jet
Boeing has announced plans to offer a business jet version of its new fuel-efficient B737 MAX aircraft.
The new BBJ MAX 8 will offer the same cabin size with the existing BBJ 2, but will employ CFM International’s new LEAP-1B engines and wing tip devices to offer a 13% reduction in fuel burn.
“We anticipate the BBJ MAX 8 will be a very strong seller as a VIP aircraft and will likely capture a larger share of the market because it’s the right combination of performance, space and comfort,” said Captain Steve Taylor, President of Boeing Business Jets. “For VIP customers, extended range and exceptional comfort are equally important. The BBJ MAX will ensure our customers get the best of both.”
Boeing also intends to develop the BBJ MAX 9, based in the extended version of the B737 MAX, while plans for the smaller BBJ MAX 7 are also being studied.
