Boeing will increase production rate of its 737 programme to 52 aircraft per month in 2018.
Due to what the company called “strong market demand from customers worldwide”, Boeing will start building more than 620 airplanes per year – the highest rate ever for the aircraft.
Boeing currently produces the B737 at a rate of 42 aircraft per month, but this will gradually increase to 47 planes per month in 2017, before reaching 52 per month the following year.
“For over a decade we have seen resilient demand for the 737 and a rate increase to 52 per month reflects the appetite for airplanes like the 737 MAX and next-generation 737,” said Randy Tinseth, Boeing’s vice president of marketing. “Our thorough analysis tells us the single-aisle market continues to expand and is the fastest growing, most dynamic segment of the market.”
Boeing’s long-term forecast projects demand for more than 25,000 single-aisle aircraft, such as the B737 and rival Airbus A320, over the next 20 years, worth a total of US$2.56 trillion.
To date, 266 customers have placed orders for more than 12,100 Boeing 737s, including 2,200 new B737 MAX aircraft.
