Boeing has opened a new facility where Boeing 737 customers can choose the interior design of their new aircraft.
The new 737 Configuration Studio, located at the company’s main factory near Seattle, covers 1,900m² and provides a “showroom environment” for airline interiors. There is also a “Light Lab” to demonstrate how fabrics, carpets, drapes and uniforms appear under various light settings.
“Our customers make a large investment when they choose their interiors. This new studio offers one-stop shopping, eliminating the need for them to fly around the world to meet with different suppliers,” said Beverly Wyse, vice president & general manager of the 737 programme.
Boeing said it expects to manage “more than two dozen major interior configurations” over the next two years.
Airlines can select the galleys, seats and in-flight entertainment, along with aircraft’s interior colours and decoration. The new facility also houses a “new features room” designed to showcase future technologies.
