Bombardier, the Canadian planemaker, has confirmed that it held talks with Airbus recently, but said that avenues of cooperation “are no longer being pursued”.
Airbus had earlier revealed that the two aerospace giants were in discussions relating to Bombardier’s CSeries aircraft project. But while Bombardier has confirmed that it held talks “regarding certain business opportunities”, it added that those discussions have now ended.
But the company “will continue to explore initiatives, such as a potential participation in industry consolidation”, it said, potentially paving the way for other companies to get involved in the CSeries project.
It is unclear whether Boeing has been approached, or would be interested in a partnership.
The CSeries is Bombardier’s new fuel-efficient single-aisle passenger aircraft, which was intended to rival the smaller version of Airbus’ popular A320 aircraft. The project has been beset by delays however, and orders have dried up.
