Bombardier has celebrated the delivery of its first CSeries aircraft.

Launch customer SWISS has welcomed the new regional jet in an event attended by Bombardier’s employees, government representatives, suppliers and the media. The aircraft, a CS100 model, is scheduled to enter service on 15 July 2016, with its maiden commercial flight from Zurich to Paris.

“Today is a significant moment for Bombardier, SWISS and their employees, many of whom have dedicated years to designing, building, marketing and defining the flight network for the CSeries aircraft as the first right-sized aircraft in the 100- to 150-seat market segment in nearly 30 years,” said Fred Cromer, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “I heartily congratulate our teams and thank our launch operator SWISS for its longstanding support of the programme.”

The CSeries, which includes the CS100 and CS300 versions, features a completely new aircraft design using composite materials and new engines. The aircraft will be more fuel-efficient than its predecessors and will have larger cabin windows.

They will offer between 100 and 150 seats, positioning them as competitors not only to other regional jets, but also to the smaller versions of the Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 series.

Bombardier has taken orders for 370 CSeries aircraft, with major customers including SWISS, Air Canada, Delta Air Lines and Korean Air.

SWISS will gradually replace its fleet of Avro RJ100 aircraft with the new CSeries. Following the Paris launch, the airline plans to deploy the new aircraft on its services to Manchester, Prague, Budapest, Warsaw, Brussels, Nice, Stuttgart, Hanover, Milan, Florence and Bucharest.
