Bombardier has confirmed that the first test flight of its new aircraft, the CS300, will take place on 26 February 2015, weather permitting.
The CS300 is the larger version of Bombardier’s new CSeries, which is designed to compete with the popular Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 models. The aircraft will be able to carry approximately 150 passengers, depending on the seating layout, and has a range of more than 5,400km.
“I’m thrilled to confirm the countdown to the CS300 aircraft’s first flight is officially on and as excitement builds, our teams are readying for yet another milestone in the development of the CSeries family of aircraft,” said Mike Arcamone, president of Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.
“We look forward to a successful flight and invite everyone to follow us as we continue on our mission to deliver the only 100% new family of aircraft.
“The CS300 aircraft represents two-thirds of our CSeries aircraft backlog and it offers the best seat-mile cost in its category, making it the most profitable solution for mid-sized markets with up to 150 passengers per flight, and ideal for a range of routes from short-haul to longer transcontinental markets.”
To date, Canada’s Bombardier has taken orders for more than 240 CSeries aircraft, including 180 CS300s. Major customers include Korean Air, Lufthansa, airBaltic and China’s Zhejiang Loong Airlines.
