The aim of this event is to introduce Brazilian culture to Thailand through performance art. The evening will comprise of the award-winning stage show Muay Thai Live, followed by a special performance of the Brazilian Martial Art Capoeira, and lastly, two live Muay Thai fights with Brazilian fighters.
At a press conference held on 2 February at the embassy, the organisers discussed the significance of this event.
“Despite the geographic distance between Brazil and Thailand, we are very similar countries. Our peoples are joyful, welcoming and warm, and we both love sports and martial arts! This special event is the expression of a perfect exchange: Thais will perform Capoeira, the Brazilian traditional dance-fight; and Brazilians will compete at the highest level of Thai Boxing. As we celebrate our nations, we will also be raising funds for a good cause: helping Hilltribes’ children in Northern Thailand to have access to education.” – Flávio Campestrin Bettarello, Counsellor, Embassy of Brazil in Bangkok
“Muay Thai or the Art of Thai Boxing originated in Thailand, but has spread throughout the world. Brazil is one of the nations that this ancient sport has gained immense popularity in. Hence by collaborating with the Embassy of Brazil for this special event, Muay Thai Live aims to further strengthen ties between the two nations by means of sports and culture.
“Hosting this charity night at our venue is an honour for us, as we not only showcase the best of Brazil and Thailand through performance art, but also raise funds for a good cause,” said Reena Hallberg, Public Relations and Communications Manager, Muay Thai Live: The Legend Lives.
