British hotels have been rated some of the best in Europe despite the past ‘Fawlty Towers’ reputation of the industry, according to TripAdvisor.
The reviews site has seen a year-on-year rise in ratings for UK accommodation since 2004, with some figures now higher than those in the US, France, Spain and Germany.
“Hotel and B&B owners have, it appears, clearly been listening to the free feedback they have received, and used it to improve the service they provide,” said Christine Petersen, president of TripAdvisor for Business on the results.
Smaller B&Bs are also said to be leading the way, even ahead of luxury hotel chains. Cumbria, Cornwall and Northumberland are amongst the regions with the best reviews.
