Butlins has announced it plans to replace some of its accommodation with a hotel on its Minehead site.

The hotel will cost GBP20 million to develop with plans to be submitted to West Somerset Council in January 2014.

Work has already started to develop accommodation on part of the resort with more than GBP16m to be spent.

Butlins opened its first hotel accommodation offering in 2009 with the Shoreline Hotel and Ocean Hotel at Bognor Regis, followed by the Wave Hotel in 2012.

“Guests tell us that they would welcome both the flexibility and convenience of holiday accommodation in the form of a resort hotel at the Minehead resort. The re-development plan has taken account of feedback from guests and the new resort hotel has been designed to appeal to families. This type of hotel has worked well at the Bognor Regis resort and we think Minehead would also benefit from a modern resort hotel,” said Allan Lambert, head of retail sales at Bourne Leisure.
