Capella Hotel Group has teamed up with Pierre Gagnaire, the multi-Michelin-starred French chef, to launch a new restaurant at its first hotel in mainland China.
Under the partnership, Gagnaire will also open his first restaurant in China, with a new outlet called Comptoir Pierre Gagnaire to be located within the new Capella Shanghai.
First announced earlier this year, the luxury hotel will be an all-villa property built within the Jian Ye Li estate, which is Shanghai’s last remaining cluster of “shikumen” warehouse buildings, dating back to the 1930s.
Comptoir Pierre Gagnaire will be a French brasserie, adding to the French chef’s collection of 12 global restaurants with a total of 13 Michelin stars.
“The idea behind Comptoir Pierre Gagnaire is an echo to the 1930s. It sends my message of warmth, quality and modesty as a tribute to the era. The place has to be joyful, comfortable and easily accessible. It is out of the question that it becomes a closed and exclusive place,” said Gagnaire.
Capella Shanghai and Comptoir Pierre Gagnaire are both scheduled to open in March 2017.
