Lufthansa will expand its European network this summer, including the launch of flights from Cardiff and Glasgow to Dusseldorf.
The new routes, which launch from 31 March, were part of several announced for the airline’s summer schedule which also includes a new service between Munich and Vancouver.
Onboard the airline has sped up the installation of its new Business Class cabin, aiming to have all its long-haul fleet converted by summer 2015. Its broadband internet service is now available on the majority of its long-haul fleet except aircraft in China airspace and some of its Boeing 747-8s and Airbus A380s.
“Our new Business Class has had an excellent response from customers. We are therefore speeding up the retrofit and have set aside 50 million euros for this purpose in addition to the refitting costs,” said Jens Bischof, vice president of corporate procurement and supply management on the decision.
In addition to the UK services, connections from various German cities to destinations in Turkey, Spain, Tunisia, Bulgaria and Portugal will be added.
Its subsidiary Germanwings is to take over the operation of six European routes from Hamburg to Vienna, Stuttgart, Nuremberg, Dubrovnik, Nice and Palma de Mallorca with passengers booked already to be rebooked from flights departing from 1 July.
