Cathay Pacific Airways has introduced its new business class cabin to the route between Hong Kong on London Heathrow.

The new seat is wing-backed to offer privacy and angled to optimise the passenger’s view through the window. It also converts into a bed which Cathay claims is “one of the longest and widest provided on any commercial airline”, while a retractable armrest can be lowered to increase sleeping space or raised to act as a privacy screen.

“Our new business class is a genuine collaboration between our customers and our own team. The customers know best. This is why in designing the business class product we talked to our customers, listened to their feedback, and then incorporated those features they told us would provide them with the optimal balance of productivity, comfort, and privacy. This is a seating environment truly designed by the people who use it,” said Cathay’s chief executive, John Slosar.

The new business class product has already been installed on all of Cathay’s new Airbus A330-300 and Boeing 777-300ER deliveries, and is now being progressively rolled-out on all existing A330-300s and B777-300ERs. By February 2013, the airline will have equipped all 30 of its B777-300ERs and 20 A330-300s with the product, by which time it will be available on all four daily services to London.
