Cathay Pacific Airways has entered into a new partnership that will significantly expand its network in the UK.
The Hong Kong-based carrier has penned a codeshare agreement with UK-based regional carrier, Flybe, that will allow passengers travelling from Hong Kong to connect to seven destinations in the UK, via Manchester.
Cathay will be launching its brand new Hong Kong-Manchester service this month, marking the first time it has flown direct to a UK city other than London.
“This new agreement comes at the perfect time as we will be launching a four-times-weekly service between Hong Kong and Manchester on 8 December,” said Cathay’s chief operating officer, Rupert Hogg.
“The codeshare flights with Flybe will provide our passengers with greater choice and ease of connection to different cities within the UK from Hong Kong via Manchester.”
Under the new agreement, Cathay’s ‘CX’ code will be placed on Flybe’s domestic flights between Manchester International Airport and seven UK destinations – Aberdeen, Belfast, Edinburgh, Exeter, Inverness, the Isle of Man and Southampton. Tickets for the new codeshare services are now open for sale for travel commencing 11 December 2014.
Cathay’s new Manchester service will operate every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Flights will depart Hong Kong International Airport at 0100, arriving in Manchester at 0620 the same day. The return service will leave at 1200, getting back into HKIA at 0755 the next morning.
These flights will add to Cathay’s existing services to London Heathrow.
