Cathay Pacific teams up with Qatar Airways

Cathay Pacific has signed a new commercial agreement with Qatar Airways that will see the two carriers cooperate on flights between Hong Kong and Doha.
Effective 30 March 2014, the new agreement will see Cathay and Qatar Airways each operate one daily flight between Hong Kong and Doha, with each airline codesharing on the other’s services.
This will mean Cathay will make its debut on the Doha route, using its three-class Airbus A330-300 aircraft with business, premium economy and economy class cabins.
Members of both carriers’ frequent flyer programmes will also be able to earn and redeem miles and use lounges in both Hong Kong and Doha airports.
“Cathay Pacific has a strong commitment to serving the Middle East and we are pleased to enter into this agreement with oneworld partner Qatar Airways, and at the same time launch our own new service to Doha,” said Cathay’s chief executive, John Slosar.
“This exciting business opportunity will help us maximise the potential of the market between Qatar and Hong Kong and enable both airlines to create synergies that will improve the overall travel experience for our customers.”
Cathay’s new Doha service will depart Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) at 1840 each day, arriving in the Qatari capital at 2250. The return service will leave Doha at 0145, getting back into HKIA at 1440.
This will complement Qatar Airways’ existing 0740 and 0130 departures from Doha and Hong Kong respectively. Cathay and Qatar Airways are both members of the oneworld alliance.
