Cathay Pacific Airways has taken delivery of a new Airbus A330-300 aircraft – the 1,000th A330 ever to be produced by Airbus.
The landmark aircraft was handed over to Cathay Pacific at ceremony in France on Friday (19 July 2013). The fact that Cathay was the recipient of the 1,000th aircraft was appropriate as the Hong Kong-based airline, along with its Dragonair subsidiary, is the world’s largest operator of the twin-aisle A330, with a total of 56 now in service.
“The A330 has played an integral part in Cathay Pacific’s growth and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership in the future,” said Ivan Chu, Cathay Pacific’s chief operating officer.
“The A330 is the backbone of our mid-size fleet and we are delighted with the reliability, flexibility and above all the economics of this great aircraft. We are very proud to be the recipient of the 1,000th A330.”
Since its first delivery of the A330 in 1995, Cathay’s Airbus fleet now comprises 38 A330-300s and 11 A340s, while Dragonair flies 21 A320s and 18 A330-300s. The group also has outstanding orders for 10 more A330-300s and 48 new A350s.
Airbus has now taken more than 1,250 orders for the twin-aisle A330, and the aircraft is currently in service with more than 100 airlines.
Cathay operates its A330-300s in a range of cabin configurations, ranging from 242 to 311 seats.
