Cathay Pacific experienced a continued rise in passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2015.
The Hong Kong-based airline, along with its sister carrier Dragonair, boarded a total of 8.18 million passengers in the first three months of the year, 8.6% more than the same period last year.
This followed the 5.5% growth in traffic recorded for the full-year 2014.
“March is traditionally a shoulder season between the Chinese New Year and Easter peak periods, but this year saw passenger demand for the month rising above expectations,” said Cathay’s general manager for revenue management, Patricia Hwang.
“Demand was strong in all cabins, with high load factors to and from Southwest Pacific, Europe and the UK. Demand on the US routes caught up with the big increase in capacity introduced last year, while travel in the region was generally strong, particularly to Japan, Thailand and Singapore.”
Cathay and Dragonair operated a total of 19,186 flights in the first quarter of 2015, up 6.2% year-on-year, and the airline achieved an average cabin load factor of 84.9% – 2.3 percentage points stronger than Q1 2014.
