The Celebrity Reflection will be christened in December

Royal Caribbean subsidiary Celebrity Cruises has announced that it will be marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month by making four of its employees Godmother to Celebrity Reflection.

The employees – two of which have worked onboard and two in the corporate office – have been selected because of their remarkable life achievements and the work they’ve done to fight cancer.

The Godmother’s of Reflection are: Jovanka Goronjic, who works as the manager of AquaSpa on Celebrity Constellation, and donated her hair to charity for the creation of wigs for cancer patients after her mother was diagnosed with the disease; Megan Mathie, a glassblowing artist onboard the Celebrity Eclipse who hosts a ‘Hot Pink Glass Show’ on every cruise which has at its climax an auction for a unique pink glass creation to raise funds for the line’s charity partner, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. In the corporate office there is community relations lead Helen O’Connell who acts as chief liaison with the Make-a-Wish Foundation and was herself diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009; and Rosey Rodriguez, manager of the firm’s special events team who was diagnosed with type-3 breast cancer this year and has shown her resolution to beating the disease by taking her laptop to treatments.

“The breast cancer cause is one we’ve adopted across the Celebrity Cruises brand, and one with deep meaning for each of these women and their four predecessors,” said Richard D. Fain chairman of Celebrity Cruises and Chairman & CEO of parent company Royal Caribbean. “These ladies are not only inspiring in their professional lives, but in their personal lives, as well, with each of them devoted to their own and our company’s interest in doing all we can to find a cure for breast cancer.”

Michael Bayley, Celebrity’s president & CEO commented: “These impressive women personify the qualities we admire among our Solstice Class Godmothers: remarkable strength and courage, along with optimism, warmth and genuine care for others. They beautifully represent countless other women within our company and around the world who have battled the disease or supported the cause in honour of friends or family who have done so.”

Celebrity Cruises began its support of cancer charities in 2008 at an event onboard the Celebrity Solstice. The four Godmothers of Reflection will be present at the naming of the ship in Miami in December 2012.
