Centara Hotels & Resorts has signed a management agreement for its first ever hotel in China.
The Thai hotel group has penned a deal with Zhaoqing Yuhao Properties Development to operate the Centara Resort Zhaoqing, in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.
The new upscale resort will offer 250 rooms plus a range of family-friendly facilities including a water park with swimming pools and a pool bar. There will also be three restaurants, a spa, fitness centre, large children’s club and meeting space, including an 800m² ballroom.
Announcing the new resort, Chris Bailey, Centara’s senior vice president of sales & marketing, said it would be the “ideal start for our expansion in China”.
Thirayuth Chirathivat, the hotel group’s CEO, also commented that “China is a key part of Centara’s strategic expansion across Asia”.
Zhaoqing, which lies on the Pearl River, is a popular local tourist destination, with a mountainous landscape including the ‘Seven Star Crags’ – a series of limestone karsts that surround the Star Lake.
Centara Resort Zhaoqing scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2017, and will join the company’s portfolio of 72 hotels either operating or under development in 10 countries: Thailand, the Maldives, Vietnam, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Qatar, Laos, Ethiopia, Oman and Turkey.
Centara will become the third Thailand-based hotel group with a presence in China, along with Onyx Hospitality and Dusit International.
