Centara to open third hotel in Bangkok
Centara Hotels & Resorts has announced its third hotel in Bangkok; Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel & Spa. The four-star property, which will be located in the Rachaprarop area of the Thai capital above the Watergate Pavillion shopping complex, follows Centara’s two existing hotels in Bangkok – Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld, and Sofitel Centara Grand Bangkok, both of which are also situated adjacent to major shopping malls. This location is a key factor in acquiring the new management contract, according to Centara.
Centara Watergate Hotel & Spa Bangkok is being developed at an investment of approximately THB700 million (US$23 million), and is expected to open in the second quarter of 2012.
“We are proud and delighted in the confidence the owning company is placing in Centara Hotels & Resorts to manage this very impressive and significant property,” said Suthikiati Chirathivat, Chairman of the Executive Board of Centara’s owning company, Central Plaza Hotel Public Company Limited.
“The hotel is a perfect addition to Centara’s portfolio in Bangkok, as both of our existing hotels in the capital are directly adjacent to major shopping and lifestyle centres. With our two existing properties our guests can enjoy the best of shopping and entertainment facilities, and this will also be the case with Centara Watergate,” he added.
Chris Bailey, Senior Vice President for Sales & Marketing at Centara Hotels & Resorts, said the four-star category of the hotel broadens Centara’s base in Bangkok, as both of the existing properties are five-star.
“This opens up another sector of the market for us and enhances our presence in the Rachaprarop district, where Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld is also located,” Bailey said. “Centara Watergate Pavillion Hotel and the Watergate Pavillion shopping complex will expand the attractions of Rachaprarop itself, which in recent years has emerged as the shopping and lifestyle centre of Bangkok.”
The hotel and shopping complex are located inside a newly-constructed 20-storey building, with the hotel taking up a total of 10 floors and featuring a total of 288 rooms. Of these, 243 will be Standard rooms, 27 Premium rooms, and 18 will offer a family concept.
Facilities will include an all-day restaurant with a total of 300 seats indoors and outdoors, a rooftop restaurant with 100 seats, and a rooftop bar with 80 seats. There will be a Spa Cenvaree with nine treatment rooms and a 56-square metre fitness centre. Two meeting rooms will cater for the MICE sector.
The Watergate Pavillion shopping complex is being built in two phases. Phase 1 consists of 18 floors and two basements, totalling 60,000 square metres, with more than 1,000 shops and food outlets. Phase 2 will consist of 25,000 square metres of space with 900 shops.
