Central America cruise grows 15%

The Central America cruise market has grown by 15% according to statistics released by the Secretariat of Central America Tourism Integration (SITCA) in time for the FCCA Cruise Conference, which was recently held in La Antigua, Guatemala.
In total 2,394,000 people visited the region by cruise ship with Honduras registering the highest increase in incoming calls at its two ports of Roatan and Mahogany Bay, with 787,000 passengers over 315 cruise ships. The number accounts for around a third of the region’s cruise passengers.
The conference also confirmed that Belize is increasingly seeing more traffic and now accounts for around 728,000 passengers. Panama is the third largest destination within the region with around 429,000 passengers over 277 ships.
Costa Rica narrowly came in fourth with 269 cruise ships last season and 334,000 passengers. Interestingly Guatemala had 75,000 cruise passengers of which 70% were repeat visitors.
