More than a quarter of international visitors to Bali in the first half of 2017 were from mainland China, new data has revealed.
According to the latest figures from the Provincial Statistics Office, reported by BaliDiscovery, the “Island of the Gods” welcomed a total of 2.81 million international visitors in January-June 2017, 23.8% more than in the same period last year.
And 26.3% of these arrivals (737,852) were from mainland China, which marks a sharp 59.0% year-on-year increase and makes the world’s most populous country Bali’s largest tourism source market.
Australia provided 536,738 visitors to Bali in the first half, which was almost unchanged compared to the first six months of 2016 and gives Australia a 19.1% share of total arrivals.
India surged into third place, accounting for 129,727 visitors to Bali, up 39.9% year-on-year and overtaking the UK, which was fourth with 113,413 visitors, and Japan, which slid into fifth place with 112,065.
For the month of June 2017 alone, Bali welcomed a total of 504,141 international arrivals, up 24.2% year-on-year. Average occupancy in starred hotels was 66.7% and the island’s average length-of-stay was calculated at 3.04 days.
