China’s aviation authorities have issued a new warning to passengers, reminding them to behave on flights and at airports.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) issued a statement this week saying that passengers will be “punished severely or held criminally liable” for any unruly behaviour.
This includes blocking or assaulting airport staff and crew members, trespassing on the apron or runway, the destruction of airport facilities, opening aircraft doors, damaging aircraft, carrying dangerous instruments and making false terror threats.
The statement follows a series of recent conflicts at airports and on flights in China. The CAAC revealed that since late July, there have been 15 recorded incidents of passengers trying to open aircraft doors, as well as one incident of in-flight arson.
Late last month four mainland Chinese passengers were jailed in Hong Kong after assaulting staff at the city’s airport.
