China Southern Airlines is boosting its presence in Melbourne with the addition of more flights and the deployment of a new aircraft to the city.
From 26 October 2013, the Guangzhou-based airline will start flying twice daily to the Australian city, using its new Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which features fully flat beds in business class and seatback in-flight entertainment systems in both cabins.
With 275 seats, the new A330 will boost capacity on the route by more than 1,600 seats per week over the Australian summer season.
The move marks the latest upgrade of China Southern’s Australasian services. Brisbane and Perth are already served by the new A330s and from 28 October 2013 China Southern will deploy its A380 to Sydney and its Boeing 787 Dreamliner to Auckland.
“This is a really exciting time for China Southern in Australia and we’re thrilled to have completed this overhaul of our aircraft to ensure that each and every one of our Australian guests has a comfortable and pleasant flight with us,” said China Southern’s regional general manager for Australia & New Zealand, Henry He.
“We’re celebrating with some great spring deals which we hope will encourage more Victorians to fly with us and experience the new and improved China Southern product.”
China Southern is aiming to take a share of the lucrative ‘Kangaroo Route’ market between Australia and Europe by offering easy connections via Guangzhou, marketing it as the ‘Canton Route’.
