China Southern Airlines has started taking delivery of its new fleet of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
The Guangzhou-based carrier has ordered 10 of the new wide-body aircraft, which form part of a major upgrade of its long-haul fleet. In addition to the B777s, China Southern has ordered new B787 Dreamliners, Airbus A380s and A330-300s.
“The 777-300ER’s long-haul capability is a perfect fit for our network expansion plans as it will enable us serve our existing long-range markets more efficiently and open new routes in the future,” said Zhang Zifang, China Southern’s chief operating officer.
“The 777-300ER will support the development of Guangzhou as our main international hub and will be a vital part of our ‘Canton Route’ services.”
The new aircraft will be configured with 309 seats in four cabin classes – four in first class, 34 in business class, 44 in premium economy and 227 in economy.
The first new B777 will be deployed on China Southern’s flights to New York’s JFK Airport later this year.
