Loong Air, a new Chinese passenger airline based in Hangzhou, has received permission to launch international flights.

The former cargo carrier moved into the passenger sector in late 2013, and has now had its Air Operator’s Certificate upgraded by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), allowing it to launch international flights.

The airline now plans to launch services to Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Southeast Asia later this year.

From its base at Hangzhou’s Xiaoshan International Airport, Loong Air currently flies to multiple Chinese cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Chongqing, Kunming, Haikou and Harbin.

It plans to expand its current fleet of 14 Airbus A320 aircraft to 24 by the end of 2016.
