A major Chinese real estate developer is unveiled plans to invest US$3 billion in a series of luxury hotels in Cambodia.

The China Daily reports that Guangzhou R&F Properties has partnered with Cambodia’s Royal Group to develop several new “mega-projects” in the capital Phnom Penh and coastal province of Preah Sihanouk.

Zhang Li, chairman of Guangzhou R&F Properties, is said to have discussed the plan during a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen. The PM reportedly welcomed the investment.

Royal Group’s hotel portfolio currently includes the Hotel Cambodiana in Phnom Penh and Royal Sands resort on the island of Koh Rong.
