Emirates will become the first airline to fly to the Airbus A380 to Christchurch next month.
Effective 30 October 2016, the Dubai-based carrier will upgrade its daily service to the New Zealand city from a Boeing 777 to the three-class A380. The stop in Bangkok will be removed, but the aircraft will operate via Sydney.
Under the new timetable, flight EK412 will depart Dubai every day at 1015 and arrive in Christchurch at 1350 the next day, following a stop in Sydney.
The return flight, EK413, will depart Christchurch at 1845 and arrive back in Dubai 0515 the following morning, again with a stop in Sydney.
Emirates said this new schedule would reduce the journey time by about two hours in each direction.
The launch of the Christchurch A380 flights will coincide with the introduction of the double-decker jet on Emirates’ daily direct Dubai-Auckland service. The airline also currently also operates three other daily A380 services to New Zealand, all to Auckland via Australia.
