Ivan Chu has been named as the new chief executive of Cathay Pacific Airways, following a reshuffle that will see current CEO John Slosar become chairman.
Slosar, who succeeded current IATA director-general Tony Tyler as Cathay’s CEO in 2011, will take over as the Hong Kong-based carrier’s chairman in March 2014, when Christopher Pratt retires. Slosar will also serve as chairman of John Swire & Sons, Swire Pacific, Swire Properties and Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering.
Meanwhile Chu, the airline’s current chief operating officer, will mark his 30th year with the company next year by becoming CEO. Chu, 51, joined Cathay in 1984 and has worked in various roles in Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan, Thailand and Australia.
