France-based cruise line Compagnie du Ponant has announced it has seen a 50% increase in bookings so far this year mainly due to a boost in forward bookings.
The cruise company said an expanded destination range with the launch of fifth ship LE LYRIAL has been popular with customers, with cruises to Australia, New Zealand and Alaska available from spring 2015.
In addition the cruise line opened its 2015 sales in April, six months ahead of the traditional calendar.
In May alone there were bookings for 2, 200 passengers, following a year of revenue topping EUR100 million and 20,000 passengers in 2013.
“Compagnie du Ponant has achieved excellent results for the first half of 2014 thanks to all the investments made over the last two years and deployment of a forward bookings strategy. The figures underpin the performance of our business model after 25 years of hard work,” said Jean-Emmanuel Sauvée, CEO of Compagnie du Ponant.
New ship LE SOLEAL has also helped with an increase in bookings, while a reorganisation and doubling of its sales and reservations teams has meant more contact and support for travel agents.
The line’s sales and marketing director Herve Balleiche said: “We have launched numerous projects over the last few months that are now bearing fruit in 2014, including a more aggressive fares policy, digital media strategy, systems revamp and investments in our relationship with travel agencies. And we have other projects in the pipeline which will be unveiled in September 2014 at [France trade show] Top Resa [in September].”
