Sustainable hotel association Considerate Hoteliers announced ambitious international expansion plans at its annual awards ceremony yesterday.

The association announced Raffles Hotels Group as its first large international hotel chain member which it hopes will kick off others to sign up.

“We hope that with our new site, increased awareness and a social media presence we can reach out internationally,” Xenia Hohenlohe, marketing director at the association told Travel Daily. “Sometimes hoteliers want to make changes but don’t know where to start, so our knowledge, as well as our members’, can help with that.”

As part of its new website a members-only section has been launched with a ‘Knowledge Hub’ where hoteliers can swap sustainability tips and advice.

Its directory is soon to include more information on each hotels’ eco-credentials for both the trade and consumers, while an online booking engine could also launch on the website although it is not known if this will include access for travel companies.

At the awards ceremony, the Green House Hotel, Bournemouth took the prize for Hotel of the Year following its recent eco-friendly refurbishment.
The Soho Hotel and The Savoy were also amongst the winners.
