Consumers are changing their booking habits to still guarantee a holiday instead of cutting it altogether, according to new ABTA research.
Its latest survey found consumers have become more savvy finding deals and will book in advance or last minute to guarantee value for money. Similarly to last year the package holiday market has seen a boost, with 48% booking an overseas package and twice as many buying a domestic package break. The number of DIY holidays is said to have decreased by 4%.
When choosing their channel, more of those surveyed had booked through a travel agent (27% up 2% last year), while 30% booked through an OTA and around 27% booked direct with a tour operator.
“People recognise the importance of the high street particularly as other retail outlets open including those from tour operators such as Kuoni,” said Victoria Bacon, head of communications at ABTA on the findings.
The research has been revealed as ABTA holds its annual travel convention in Turkey this week.
