Costa Cruises embarked on its 2017 round-the-world cruise this week.
The Costa Luminosa cruise ship departed from the Italian port of Savona on 6 January for a 106-day global voyage that will take in 35 destinations on five continents before returning to Italy on 22 April 2017. The cruise will also cross both Tropics and the Equator.
Sailing westwards from the Mediterranean into the Atlantic, Costa Luminosa will visit Morocco, Brazil, Argentina and Chile before heading out across the Pacific Ocean to French Polynesia, New Zealand and Australia. It will then sail across the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka, India and the Middle East, before heading back to Italy via the Suez Canal.
More than 2,000 cruise passengers have reserved a cabin on the world cruise, hailing from 37 different countries. The majority are from France (around 600), Germany (just under 500), Switzerland (around 300), Italy (over 200) and Spain (around 150). The oldest passenger is 96-year-old Swiss man, and the youngest is two-year-old Italian girl.
