Costa Cruises has geared up for its inaugural South Asian season with an event onboard one of its cruise ships.
Costa Luminosa, which is currently sailing around the world, docked in Mumbai, during which time it took part in the Festa Italiana 2016 celebrations in India’s commercial capital.
This event, which was organised in partnership with the Consulate General of Italy in Mumbai, comes ahead of the launch of the Costa neoClassica in Mumbai next month. The cruise ship will offer Indian passengers a series of weekly sailings to Goa, Kochi, Colombo and the Maldives between 16 December 2016 and 18 March 2017.
“We are delighted to bring cruising to Indians at their doorstep. For many travellers, the holiday often starts after some sort of a long journey. Now like never before, Indians will have the opportunity to start holidaying right from their door-step, from… Mumbai,” said Buhdy Bok, president of Costa Group Asia.
Costa neoClassica will be the first large cruise ship sailing between Mumbai and the Maldives. The vessel offers a total of 654 cabins for a capacity of 1,700 passengers, plus a casino, theatre, disco, ballroom, library, spa, outdoor jogging track, two swimming pools and a large duty-free shopping centre. F&B options include restaurants catering for the special dietary requirements of Indians, including Jain food.
“It is a proud moment for us to have Costa neoClassica to be homeported at India’s premier Mumbai Port. The Mumbai Port has long been the principal gateway to India, playing a crucial role in sea trade and the development of the national economy, trade & commerce and the prosperity of Mumbai city in particular,” said Sanjay Bhatia, chairman of Mumbai Port.
