Couples love their holidays, but 59% argue

Brits are increasingly travelling to celebrate their love although three quarters of couples argue while abroad, new reports have shown.
In a poll of 1,000 British adults, Beachcomber Hotels (which has just launched its weddings website with Laurence and Jackie Llewlyn-Bowen) found that Brits are romantics with 70% of couples saying ‘I love you’ on a daily basis and a fifth want to get engaged while on holiday.
However some of those who prepared to propose may be put off if they argue, with ebookers claiming 59% of British couples end up arguing on holiday. Around a third argued how to spend their time, while 27% said they spent too much time together (27%) and others spent too much money (27%), all suggesting a different angle for the pre-bookable tickets/attractions market.
The poll of 2,000 British adults also argued over choosing a destination (52%) and 37% felt stressed by the holiday booking process. “Holidays are the perfect time for couples to escape the everyday routine and find time to relax together. But the truth is that we’re working harder than ever before and taking fewer holidays, so by the time we actually go away, we’re exhausted and often irritable – the perfect recipe for arguments,” said relationship psychologist Jo Hemmings on the results.
No matter what they argued about, 74% of the respondents favoured a beach holiday for a romantic break and 56% felt their relationship was stronger after a holiday together. Beachcomber’s honeymoon answers found it is the area couples are ‘not scrimping on’, with 63% heading for a beach holiday, 18% keen to tour and 13% opting for an adventurous honeymoon.
Weddings abroad are also more popular; with Beachcomber saying one in five couples choosing to wed away from the UK and 55% would consider it, with a small and exclusive ceremony preferred.
