Crystal Cruises’ Northwest Passage itinerary starts in Anchorage

Crystal Cruises has announced one of its itineraries will navigate the Northwest Passage in 2016. The cruise line will be the first in the luxury category to take on the 900-mile route, which was once so remote it took centuries until it was first completed by Roald Amundsen more than 100 years ago. Sailing in August 2016, the cruise will start in Anchorage, Alaska on Crystal Serenity and sail for 32 days from the Pacific to the Atlantic, ending in New York. See the full story here.

 

Costa Concordia was finally towed away from the Giglio coast this week, after months of sitting on the banks of where it crashed in January 2012. The cruise ship is currently still on its way to Genoa today to be scrapped, after technicians spent more than a week refloating the ship for it to be moved.

 

Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record with a murder mystery cruise next year. The cruise line is hoping to achieve the most participative murder mystery event on the ‘Poison, Murder and Mystery’ cruise, which will visit Portugal, Madeira, Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Newcastle across 16 nights. The itinerary incorporates the Poison Garden at the Duchess of Northumberland’s Alnwick Castle as well as Fred. Olsen Senior’s own garden in Tenerife, both who attended the cruise’s launch in London yesterday. See more here

 

AmaWaterways christened its newest ship AmaSonata in Germany this week, as a new brochure was released. AmaSonata is the cruise line’s fifth ship it has christened in the town of Vilshofen with plans for a sixth next year. It has ambitions to reach 20 vessels in 2015, with the line also chartering some of its ships. Three of its new ships have been showcased in a new brochure covering Europe, Russia, Asia and Africa. AmaSerena and AmaVista will sail the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers while AmaDara will join the fleet in 2015 offering cruises on the Mekong.

 

The documentary around Princess Cruises’ Royal Princess has seen an average of three million views so far. The ITV show, named ‘The Cruise Ship’, has been on our screens twice with the third episode airing this tonight (25 July) on ITV at 8pm.

 

Royal Caribbean International has launched a new webisode showing the designs behind the staterooms on the new ship Quantum of the Seas. The video shows a behind-the-scenes look at the construction of the ship in the Meyer Werft shipyard.

Hebridean Island Cruises has launched its 2015 cruise directory with 14 new itineraries. Two of the cruises include docking at Tower Bridge in London while Hebridean Princess will call at Dublin for the first time since 2011. New themed cruises are also available for 2015.

Disney Cruise Line has announced its Halloween on the High Seas parties will take place across all four ships from September through October. Halloween-themed parties, entertainment and elaborate decorations will adorn the ships.

 

Norwegian Cruise Line has upgraded its menu options for the summer onwards. New rotating menus and additional reservation choices are available, while a dedicated Chocoholic Night will take place one evening per cruise. Guests can now make reservations up to 90 days in advance.

 

Silversea has announced 11 new overland excursions as part of its mid-voyage range in 2015. Sixty single or multiple-day options are now available next year with the new options including visits to the Tsavo East National Park in Mombasa; the Taj Mahal and Jaipur in India and drives through the Mount Cook and Fjordland parks in New Zealand.

 

Carnival Cruise Lines has signed a multi-year partnership with the Dallas Cowboys, as part of building its presence in Texas. Carnival is now the official cruise line of the NFL franchise and will show off its brand across the AT&T Stadium as well as online. It comes as Carnival plans to homeport a third year-round ship in Galveston next year.

 

Un-Cruise Adventures has released a new brochure with itineraries up to April 2016. The programme includes cruises to Alaska, Mexico’s Sea of Cortes, Hawaii, Columbia & Snake Rivers, coastal Washington and British Columbia, as well as the Galapagos Islands and Costa Rica/Panama.
