Cunard issues Jubilee map
Cunard has issued a map highlighting the arrival and departure times of its Three Queens Diamond Jubilee event to be held on 5 June. The three ships will arrive in formation between 5.30 – 6.15am and will depart that evening, with The Red Arrows Aerial Display scheduled to be held between 6.20 and 6.45 pm.
Fireworks will be set off between 10:20 and 10:35 pm, after the three ships reposition to create a three ship formation around the City Terminal from 9pm. The day of celebrations will come to an end with the departure of all three ships from their positions with Queen Mary 2 leading Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth out of their port positions at around 11pm.
P&O Cruises to broadcast Diamond Jubilee coverage
P&O Cruises has confirmed it will be beaming live the BBC World News coverage of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations on 5 June across its entire fleet. The coverage will start at 9am, with highlights including the royals’ separate arrivals; footage of the Queen’s 1902 state landau travelling along Whitehall and the Mall to Buckingham Palace and the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh with senior royals on the palace’s balcony to greet crowds and watch a RAF formation.
In addition to the live coverage, passengers will also have the opportunity to watch a three-part series called, Diamond Queen, in which Andrew Marr from the BBC looks at the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II, interspersed with interviews from members of the Royal Family.
All coverage will be shown live in public areas on board, and is satellite dependent.
Independence OTS to host Jubilee lunch
Independence of the Seas will host a Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch on Sunday 3 June whilst at sea on route to Gibraltar.
The on board Big Lunch for its 3634 guests will be one of the largest of its kind and guests will have the choice of dining in the elegant main dining room or opt for a more informal setting in the Windjammer Café. Dining options will take on a Great British theme too, with specials including prawn cocktails, roast beef and all the trimmings, and bread and butter pudding as well as some great British classics including beer battered fish and chips, steak and kidney pie and Cumberland sausage mash and red onion gravy.
Celebrations will run from 11.30am to 1.30pm, with the Royal Promenade decked out in red, white and blue bunting. For a traditional party feel guests will be given their own flags to wave and will be able to enjoy live music, traditional village fair-style stalls, English strawberries and Union Jack cupcakes. Photographers dressed in patriotic attire will be on hand to capture the party for posterity. Sculptors will be creating special Jubilee ice carvings at various locations around the ship to mark the special event.
The festivities will continue on into the evening on 4 June when the Royal Promenade will be the venue for the ‘Rock Britannia’ performance by the onboard team.
