Cruises companies flock to Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea will see an increase in cruise tourism next year, as cruise companies and passengers seek more exotic ports of call.
The country will feature in two dedicated P&O Cruises itineraries, both on the Pacific Dawn. The 10- and 14-night voyages from Brisbane will take in Papuan destinations including Kitava Island and Milne Bay.
In addition, SeaDream Yacht Club will be sailing into a range of remote Papuan harbours next year, including Alotau, Kitava, Tami Island, the Sepik River and Watam Village, while Coral Princess Cruises will operate several Papuan itineraries aboard its small ship, the Oceanic Discoverer, including a 25-night circumnavigation of New Guinea Island.
Noble Caledonia will offer an expedition cruise from the Papuan capital Port Moresby aboard the MS Caledonian, while expedition cruise operator Orion is extending the length of its Papuan cruises for 2014, to 21 and 19 nights respectively.
Other cruise lines featuring Papua in their 2014 itineraries include Silversea, which will visit Alotau and Madang as part of its world cruise, and South Pacific specialist Paul Gauguin Cruises, which will visit Papua as part of an 11-night Fiji to Australia voyage.
