Destinia expands presence in Iran

In a recent development, Destinia announced its expansion in Iran.
The new office serves as Destinia’s third Middle Eastern hub. “Our objective is to be one of the top three Arabic online travel agencies in the region by 2017. Last year, sales from the MENA region grew by 140% and entrance into the Iranian market is part of a larger strategic expansion by the agency,” said Amuda Goueli, CEO of Destinia.
He further added: “Iran is a large market with a huge potential for growth as one of the largest economies in the Middle East. We have already seen success in the region with hopes for continued expansion in upcoming years. According to World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), spending on domestic travel in Iran will increase by 6.8% this year and is set to double by 2025.”
The first step in this new market was to launch a website in Persian – Destinia.ir. The second step is to develop and implement a local payment system – Shaparak – used by local banks’ to pay by credit cards in rials.
Research conducted by the company reveals that UAE is one of top destinations for Iranian travellers. Other popular destinations were Turkey, Thailand, China and Russia.
