Officials running the investigation into the fire onboard an Ethiopian Airlines plane last week are looking into a part made in the US.
The incident, which took place on an empty Boeing 787 Dreamliner, has drawn investigators’ attentions to a component made by Honeywell, which may have caused last week’s fire.
The news agency quoted Britain’s Air Accident Investigations Branch as saying: “We can confirm that Honeywell have been invited to join the investigation.
“The emergency locator transmitter (ELT) is one (of) several components being looked at in detail as part of the investigation and it would be premature to speculate on the causes of the incident at this stage.”
Honeywell’s British spokesperson was unavailable to comment.
So far no airlines have said they will stop using the troubled aircraft, which has only recently been allowed to take to the skies again.
A 25 person team is currently investigating the Ethiopian Airlines incident – including officials from the US – and a report is expected soon.
