Dubai looks to boost its medical tourism segment

Dubai will soon play host to the 10th World Health Tourism Congress.

The event is scheduled to take place from 5-7 September 2015 offering a global platform to healthcare and health insurance providers, tourism promotion bodies, medical and health care regulators and tour operators.

The congress is expected to be attended by over 1500 participants from 80 countries. The congress is being organized by Grand Aurum Marketing in cooperation with Dubai Health Care City (DHCC) under the patronage of Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).

Tamer El Chamaa, director of the Congress, said more than 250 participants will be there from the UAE where health tourism has been given a focused attention by tourism authorities and healthcare regulators. The organizers are expecting wider participation from the GCC and Middle Eastern countries.

According to Patients Beyond Borders, the global health tourism market size is US$95 billion.Costa Rica, India, Malaysia, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the US are among the top health tourism destinations. Most medical tourists to Dubai are from the GCC and the wider region as well as people from countries including Libya, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, Tunisia, India, Pakistan, and Russia.
