Expedia’s business arm Egencia has launched a new rail booking platform with thetrainline.com in the UK.
Egencia said the move is part of its strategy to bring a more consumer-style approach to travel management with its rail option providing a three-step booking process.
The system will also automatically upload personal rail card information and link to preferences to those that use thetrainline for leisure travel. After a reservation is made the company can approve the booking.
The two companies said the partnership aims to cut rail travel costs for businesses as UK train travel rises to levels not seen since the 1950s.
“The challenge is that in addition to UK rail prices recently rising to record highs, Egencia’s customers travelled by rail 19% more during the first half of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012, so they are increasingly concerned about reigning in this cost,” said Egencia UK’s managing director Graham Kingsmill.
