A plane carrying 18 people has crashed in western Indonesia. A search and rescue team from Medan has arrived at the aircraft’s last know location in Langkat, North Sumatra. Local media reports suggest that the plane, operated by Nusantara Buana Airlines, issued an emergency distress call before losing contact with air traffic control. A spokesperson for airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II told the Jakarta Post that the CASA C-212 aircraft was flying from Medan to Kotacane, in Aceh province, when it came down.
