Emirates has commenced its first scheduled Airbus A380 service to India with the launch of a new a service to Mumbai.
The double-decker jet took off from Dubai International Airport on 21 July, arriving at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport early the next morning. Flights will now operate daily, departing Dubai at 2155. The return service will leave Mumbai at 0430.
“Mumbai was one of the first destinations on our route network when we launched in 1985,” said Ahmed Khoory, Emirates’ senior vice president of commercial operations for West Asia & the Indian Ocean.
“In the past 29 years, we have flown over 42 million passengers between India and the UAE and so it is quite fitting that the city becomes our 29th A380 destination. Now our customers on the route can experience the luxury, the quietness and the outstanding service onboard an Emirates A380, in addition to the other four daily services we will continue to operate to the city.”
Emirates now operates a fleet of 50 A380s to 29 global destinations, and has outstanding orders for 90 more. The Mumbai launch closely follows the launch of A380 flights to Kuwait, which started on 16 July.
The aircraft offers 14 first class suites, 76 business class seats on the upper deck and 399 economy class seats in four sections on the main deck. Passengers will be offered a new Indian menu, served by multilingual cabin crew.
