Emirates is preparing to launch flights to Clark – its second destination in the Philippines.
The new route will take off for the first time on 1 October 2013, with flights operating daily from Dubai International Airport, using a two-class Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Nearly 680,000 Filipinos live in the UAE alone, along with 342,000 in Qatar, 186,000 in Kuwait and a 1.5 million in Saudi Arabia. And Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ senior vice president of commercial operations for Gulf region, said this overseas population would fuel demand for the new route.
“When you see these figures showing the full extent of the Filipino diaspora, it’s clear how important a new route to the Philippines becomes,” said Al Mualla. “Over more than 20 years, Emirates has carried millions of passengers on the Dubai-Manila route and I am sure with the number of Filipinos on the move around the world, Clark will be equally successful.”
Emirates launched flights to Manila in 1990, making it one of the carrier’s first destinations in Southeast Asia. It now offers three daily flights to the Philippine capital.
The daily Clark service will depart Dubai at 0400 and arrive at Clark International Airport, 80km from northeast of Manila, at 1640. The return flight will depart at 1835 and arrive back in Dubai at 2305.
The new Emirates service is one of several new routes between UAE and the Philippines being launched this October, following the liberation of air services between the two countries. Philippine Airlines will commence flights to Abu Dhabi on 1 October and Dubai by the end of the year, while Cebu Pacific is launching services to Dubai on 7 October.
