Emirates has unveiled plans to fly its Airbus A380 to Los Angeles.

From 2 December 2013, the carrier will upgrade its Dubai-LA route from the Boeing 777-300ER to the A380, offering approximately 130 extra seats each way. The launch will mark the first time Emirates has flown its A380 to the US West Coast.

“Demand… has steadily grown and customers have been requesting our industry-leading A380 to LA for some time now,” said Orhan Abbas, Emirates’ commercial senior vice president for the Americas. “As Los Angeles is known for its luxury and the Hollywood lifestyle, bringing our A380 into the market was a natural fit as it allow every Emirates passenger the chance to experience the glamorous life at 35,000 feet before they arrive in LA”

Emirates will operate the 489-seat version of its A380 to LA, offering 14 suites in first class, 76 flat-bed seats in business class and 399 seats in economy. All passengers will have in-flight entertainment and Wi-Fi.

The A380 service will operate daily, departing Dubai at 0820hrs and arriving at LAX at 1250. The return flight will leave LAX at 1600, arriving back into Dubai at 1950 the following day. Dubai-LA will become the longest A380 route.

LA becomes the 23rd A380 destination in the Emirates network, and its second in the US, following New York. Emirates is the largest A380 operator in the world, with 34 of the double-decker aircraft in service and a further 56 on order.
